Neither, do I...

Howdy everyone,

Thank you for stopping by, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been praying for us.

I wanted to come on here and share something very raw and real with you all.

This isn’t polished or easy to write, but we believe it’s important to keep everyone in the loop as much as possible. Why?

Because we STILL believe in the power of prayer and that, according to the Word and the promises of God through Jesus, HEALING is already happening in Cara’s body.

And the way we see it, the more people praying and walking with us through this, the BETTER!

Cara is one of the strongest people I have ever met. After we got the results from the biopsy—after we held each other, held the kids, cried, prayed, and cried some more—she looked at me and said, “This does not change who we are or the calling on our lives.”

That’s who Cara is through and through. She’s determined to squeeze every ounce of goodness out of this fight and WIN.

I told her how much I love her and have held on to her tightly, praying over her constantly. I’m so grateful for this incredible woman!

I’m doing okay. My focus is on her and the kids. I’m working hard to stay positive and cover my family in prayer.

I KNOW God is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28), and I’m navigating the healthcare system to get her the BEST treatment.

It’s complicated and not something I know much about, but we’re figuring it out.

Neither of us has had insurance since I lost my job last year, so please pray that we can find the right plan to get her the treatment she needs. I believe God will meet our every need (Philippians 4:19).

The kids are understandably worried.

They’re having a hard time comprehending everything. They haven’t left Cara’s side and are praying with us, but I know their little hearts are anxious.

One of them even said, “But I don’t want my mom to have cancer.”

That was hard to hear. And I agree with them. I don’t want her to have it either.

If I could take it from her, I would.

I want her to be full of life and happiness...

I want to take her on our 50th wedding anniversary, sit beside her at boring graduations, walk her down the aisles at our kids’ weddings, and hold our grand babies together.

She wants that too.

God has not brought us this far to leave us now (Deuteronomy 31:6).

And even though it may seem elementary, or too simple we choose to trust God and live by faith anyhow.

He has carried us through every step of our journey....

Like us, THIS, does not change who HE is or HIS CALL on our lives.

I’m reminded of a moment just a few months ago.

Cara was pregnant with our youngest child.

Now our kid's names have always been something Cara and I have prayed over because we want to get them right.

I do not think it is a coincidence that we felt led to name him Shepard.

At the time, I didn’t fully understand why, but now I do. I believe it was God’s reminder to us that we are His people and the sheep of His pasture (Psalm 100:3).

Psalm 23 says that even when we walk through the darkest valley, our Shepherd will lead us through.

We are not going to set up camp here. We’re not staying in this valley.

We KNOW difficult days are ahead, but we are praying and preparing for strength.

I believe with all my heart that the God we serve is greater than anything that comes against us. He is our Shepherd and our source, and He will lead us out (Psalm 23:4).

Thank you again to everyone who has reached out.

We want to hear from you, and while it may take a day or two to respond, we will do our best. Please keep praying for us.

Many have asked if there’s a way to help with Cara’s treatment, and our dear friend Kaylen Penea set up a GoFundMe for us. If you’d like to contribute, you can find the link HERE.

You can also give through Dream City’s website HERE—just make sure to select “Pastor Cara’s Medical Fund” so we know where to allocate it.

Dream City Church, this does not change who we are or our mission to reach lost people with the message of Jesus.

Thank you all so much for loving us and standing with us. We couldn’t do this without you. Let's keep showing up!

Please keep praying for Cara. We love you all so much.

The best is yet to come.
